Cabaret Tropicana

Discotheques of the Havana

In discotheques of the Havana we started with the most famous show in Cuba, El Cabaret Tropicana, it’s expensive, but if you want to see a Cabaret show in Cuba, it should be at the Tropicana.

It was inaugurated in 1939 and is known as “a Paradise under the stars”. This outdoor performance, happens to be one of the best Cabaret shows, not only in Cuba, but in the World.

This cabaret has changed little since its best moments, in the 50s, but with its almost 150 dancers, models, singers and musicians, it is still a world reference, where 200,000 tourists gather every year.

Vedado

El Gato Tuerto

It is located in Vedado, very close to the Hotel Nacional and the Malecón. El Gato Tuerto is a bar with history that has retained all its charm from the past.

According to the story, this was founded by one of the founders of the Bodeguita del Medio in 1960.

In principle it was the meeting place and gathering place of the most bohemian intellectuals and artists of Havana. Over time, its clientele has changed and today, it is composed of a mix of tourists and Cubans.

Havana has local salsa, rumba, reggaeton … but there are also places where jazz is the protagonist, and this is the case of Gato Tuerto.

At the door you will see a guy in a suit and tie who will welcome us, once you pass through the revolving door you will find yourself immersed in a pleasant and different atmosphere from most of Havana’s premises.

El Gato Tuerto

La Zorra y el Cuervo, located in Vedado, is located in the basement of a building known as Rampa, one of the most commercial areas of Havana, and very close to the famous Habana Libre hotel.

It is one of the most famous jazz clubs in Havana along with the Jazz Café, although this one has more history. If you like jazz you can not stop visiting it and if you have never heard it live, do not miss the opportunity to do it in this emblematic place.

It was inaugurated in 1959, but it was not until the end of the century that it was transformed into a jazz club.

Every night a concert that can be jazz, salsa, Cuban timba is scheduled …

The premises are accessed through a red telephone booth, one of those typical London cabins, be careful not to miss it.

Then, go down some stairs, the place is underground, you have the feeling of being in a cave, which is part of its charm. It has little capacity, about 100 people.

Its setting is typical of the nightclubs of the middle of the last century.

It opens its doors at 10 pm, every night, for a large audience that is eager to listen and watch its excellent performances. His public counts on being both Cuban and foreign.

It has to be one of those legendary places of nightlife that Havana has and where you can listen to one of the best Cuban music of its kind in an incomparable setting.

They have played jazz masters such as George Benson or Wynton Marsalis among others, during their stay on the island. They have also played Cuban musicians such as Chucho Valdés, Roberto Fonseca, Harold López-Nussa, Emilio Morales …

Casa de la Música de Centro Habana (Galiano)

The Casa de la Música is located in a typical apartment building on Calle Galiano, in the heart of Havana Center.

Opened in 2003, it is considered one of the best and most popular nightclubs of live music in Cuba.

All the important groups of the island have performed before the audience of the Casa de la Música, composed of a dedicated mixture of locals and tourists.

Casa de la Música de Centro Habana (Galiano)

When big bands act, the price of the entrance varies dramatically, but the energy and frantic atmosphere that is reached in these occasions, make the experience worthwhile.

Of the two Houses of Music of the city, the version of Centro Habana is more spacious, informal and daring than its counterpart of Miramar.

The entrance costs 5 cuc and with it you have the right to 1 drink.

El piano bar del Hotel Florida

If you want to see the essence of Cuba you can not stop going to this place, which for me, is one of the best to practice Cuban salsa.

Most of the night is dedicated to salsa, but you can also see other types of dances between breaks, such as bachata, kizomba …

The dance academies have an offer that for about 25 cuc offer dance companions so you can practice what you have learned. That does not mean that you can go alone to dance, surely you will not be missing an accompanist.

Address: Street Obispo between Aguiar and Cuba
